Summer Storage

Storing your snowboard or skis correctly when not in use not only makes the best of any money you have invested in tuning your skis or board, but also prolongs the life of your equipment.

Two key things that snowsports equipment do not need while resting are heat variances and/or damp.

All too often equipment will arrive at our workshop with rusty edges, or whitened bases. It is so easy to come back from a holiday, put the skis in the cupboard still in their bag, and switch the kettle on. And then 12 months later pull the skis out before your next trip and find a few 'issues'! We would be telling fibs if we denied doing this ourselves once. But with the few tips below you should be able to avoid this, and prolong the life of your equipment (And reduce pre-holiday stress!)

Wax Up!

Before the skis go away for the summer, cover them liberally in a standard universal wax. Don't be shy, nice and thick coat and cover those edges too. This prevents the bases drying out due to heat changes, and prevents rusting of the edges too.

Seperate Ski's

Skis are nice and easy to carry when clipped together base-to-base by their brake arms, moreso when strapped together with Velcro. However, skis have a natural shape to their base, they are not intended to be ded flat, especially in the case of modern carvers. If skis are kept together, by their brake arms and/or a Velcro strap, they can lose this shape.

Store Equipment at room temperature!

Skis and boards like to be stored at around room temperature. Too hot and the bases can dry out, and cold areas are usually associated with damp areas. So find somewhere where the temperature remains fairly constant and ambient.

Haven't Your Bases Seen Enough Rock Already?

Storing a board or pair of skis leaning up against a wall on a concrete floor is not a good idea. Things can and do get knocked around, and concrete is great at delaminating ski tails and boards too.

We recommend storing your winter-sports equipment off the ground, horizontally. Grab a couple of long (12") shelf brackets from a local DIY store, wrap in a bit of insulating foam or bicycle inner tube and you have yourself a snowboard or ski storage system! By storing horizontally, you are allowing your equipment to keep that base shape, and stay safely away from hazards if kept at floor level.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get my skis and board to you for servicing?

We want to be as flexible as possible when you need to drop in your equipment. So we offer evening and weekend drop-off and pick-ups. Just give us a call or email us to let us know when you would like to bring the equipment in and we will make sure we are available to receive the equipment and discuss your servicing needs.

Who are we??

We are a team offering a personal ski and snowboard tuning and repairs service. We take great pride in offering a true 'by-hand' service rather. This takes longer but gives a high quality finish which can be tuned to the customer's needs.

What is the difference between an in-resort service and yours?

Many in-resort services are very, very good we should point out. However, from bitter experience many others are not.

By offering a personalised service we can we feel get the optimum performance from your equipment, even if edge angles and wax temperatures are of little interest to you. We check that the equipment is tuned to the factory specification, or the customers own personal requirements.

When are you open?

And we don't stop servicing skis at the end of April like many others - We appreciate that some like to glacier ski (We certainly do!) or use the growing number of indoor snow slopes. We can offer specific wax to help prevent damage in these environments so that your skis or board remain in tip-top condition.
